Can nebody tell me the exact use of return 0 in a c/c++ program??
Is it absolutely indispensible??

return 0 indicates that the main() function executed without error. If there is an exception or some other error (such as trying to input from a stream in the fail state), a 1 is returned, indicating that the program finished, but with errors.

I think in C you can declare main() as void main(), but in C++ you must declare main() as an int returning function.

In C and C++ main MUST ALWAYS return int. Not doing so is undefined behaviour.

in C99 and C++ you can declare main as accepting no parameters but in C89/C90 you must declare main as accepting an int and char ** parameter

EG

OK in C89, C90, C99 and C++

int main(int argc, char **argp)
{
    ...
    return 0;
}

Only OK in C99 and C++

int main(void)
{
    ...
    return 0;
}
