Calculation is not producing the right result

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. #include <stdio.h>
  2. #include <conio.h>
  3. #include <math.h>
  4.
  5. main(){
  6. int mark,num,pass=0,count;
  7. float ppass;
  8. printf("Please enter number of marks?:");
  9. scanf("%d",&num);
  10.
  11. for (count=0;count<num;count++)
  12. {
  13. printf("Enter mark%d:",count+1);
  14. scanf("%d",&mark);
  15. if (mark>=50)
  16. pass++;
  17. }
  18. printf("%d",pass);
  19. ppass=(float)(pass/num)*100.0;
  20. printf("The passing rate of the class is : %.1f",ppass);
  21.
  22. getch();
  23. return(0);
  24. }
--------------------------------------------------
Why my percentage of passes(ppass) cant be calculated??? Theres not error when i compile but the computation is having error... it keep show 0.0......which is the incorrect answer.

This line

ppass=(float)(pass/num)*100.0;

pass and num are both int so it is performing integer arithmatic. Since by definition pass < num the pass/num = 0 so ppass will always be 0.

To get the calculation to work cast to float before performing the division.
