book for system level programming

hello ppl,

i need to do the system level programming so that i can create services,processes and do changes in the registry using vc++.

if you guys can suggest some books that'll help me understand the basics of it with proper explantion of what are services, processes how to create it and do some modifications then it'll be teally great of you guys.

I must say (and I say this now) that I have found any c/c++ books to get (especially ones that are not specific to something else) fairly difficult to get a hold of (though I'd imagine they exist somewhere in the world)....so while on this thread, if someone can reccomend some "must haves" to keep an eye out for (I think the only c/c++ book I have ever thought worth buying <or at least bought> is one that is actually about secure programming...)....

Of course this means if you look for books on
the system level programming so that i can create services,processes and do changes in the registry using vc++.
you may actually find ones that explain it in c......

I found Prentice Halls "Linux Programming by example", very good for
the basics of system programming. However, it is in C.
