Putting bitmap or jpeg images in Turbo C++

I want to put a jpeg or gif or bitmap image onto my C++ program. I am working in Turbo C++ environment. How do I implement it? I found that putimage() attribute does not satisfy my need. I am just new to C++ programming and in the process of learning in my college. So please bear it if my question appears silly.
