an array of linked list

1
hi;
I have this structure as a C/C++ implemented in .Net env
typedef struct s
{ int data;
struct * s;
}S;
in the main()
S *a[10];
do I have to make it equal to the malloc() I remember that in the old env it was a must,but now I am compile it and nothing appeared to be wrong and if yes how can I do it?

second :if suppose I have S *temp,*head;
temp=head;
head=head->next;
Does the temp move or stay ?As far as I know it stays but just to be sure of this
