which C++ book are you refering to, which doesnt talk about ADT or what
are called abstract base classes ?

The Wikipedia article's definition seems plausible.

According to its search function, the FAQ contains the acronym ADT exactly
once. In that paragraph, it does not at all address the question of the OP.
Did you misread ADT for ABC?
