Run a program behind screen

Hi
I am interested in writing a program for a reminder clock. The way I
want to design is like, I run the exe once (say,everyday in the
morning) and the program runs like an invisible program from behind and
give me pop up messages at the time instants set in my C program.

Or in other words on clicking .exe I donot want the exe occupying a tab
in my desktop.

I run windowsxp in my comp.

Please provide me directions for the program.
