ctype.h & using namespace std

Hi

I am using VS 6 EE

I had error when I used

#include <ctype>
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
#include <string>
#include <iomanip>
using namespace std;

I had to change it to
#include <ctype.h>

Why ctype is an exception?

Thanks
