Segmentation Error

1
I have written some code which has the following structure

main() {

repeatfunc();

}

repeatfunc() {

if (....) {
repeatfunc()
}
else
exit(0);

}

now the repeatfunc() is used to store large random numbers in a linked list, and if a condition is satisfied, it again generates and stores random numbers in a linked list. after running this program for sometime, i get a segmentation error, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what is going on and I havent succeeded, any tips as to how to overcome this, one of my friends said this is happening cause, the stack gets filled after sometime and then the segmentation error is thrown, now is there a way to clear the stack? Thanks in advance for your help!

They are right. Yes you can clear the stack by returning from your functions.

When you call a function data is allocated from the stack for the functions stack frame, this includes all parameters and auto variables of the function as well as any required processor registers. This memory is realease back to the stack when the code returns from the function.

There is a limit to the function depth you can go to (this depends on the amount of data the function puts on the stack and the size of the stack), once you reach this at the next function call you run out of stack space and "segmentation fault".
