ndefined reference to function

1
I am using a glade generated project as a base and when I try and add files to the project by editing the Makefile.am and rerunning ./configure. Some times it works fine and other times i get a undefined reference error. further more in some instances I do not include a .h file defining the functions and it works fine and other times I include a .h file and I still get the error. one real ugly hack I found is to do a
#include "whateve.c"
and leave the .c file out of the Makefile.am file.

Any suggestions on what the proper way of adding files to a project is?
