I am using fedora core 2 can you suggest me an RPM package to know the
amount of time a program spends in a
particular part of the program.

What you need is a profiler.
Try google for one.

its an OT question, but since you are an FC user :-) try:
http://valgrind.org/
look for "Cachegrind" tool and "Callgrind" front end.
