jni help...

hello all,

I have a C++ file, which calls a c++ library which returns a
Vector<Struct>
My C++ File is invoked via a Jni call...
Instead of parsing the vector & returning an Object array back to
my Java Class,
can i return the vector itself ??...
or
Can I pass a refrence to a Vector from my Java class to my C++
file, which it
can fill ??...
which one is feasible ???

regards and thanks,
gautam.

Java is a different language than C++. On the Java side you can only
work with Java objects. Hence, if you want the Java side to be able to
anything else than simply keep an object reference, you must use the
Java C++ binding (the JNI) to convert between Java and C++
representations of the data.

Files don't call anything ... only programs do.

What is a "Vector<Struct>"? C++ only knows about "std::vector<T>"
which is a template where T is any well-defined C++ object. Is that a
Java type?

You don't "invoke" a file, unless you mean "executable file". But it
appears that you have some kind of shared library here.

What is "Jni"?

I'm afraid that your Java program will have difficulties interpreting
a C++ std::vector...

It all depends on how well your C++ library can communicate with the
Java program. And that is off-topic for this newsgroup.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any other newsgroups which discuss
matters pertaining to interoperability between Java and C++, otherwise
I would be glad to help steer you to an appropriate newsgroup.
