About c++

I am a student of computer science 1st year, i have fond interest in
c++,
till now i have the knowledge of C language and now i want to learn
data structures and efficient programs in C++ .
could nebody please suggest me some tips ,links and books so that i
could become a efficient programmer as i have to make a career in
software field.
also i have a query that how can we measure that one program is better
(in terms of memory/speed etc.)than the other one.
I will be very thankful to you if u please help me.

Well, you'll find comp.lang.c++ just down the hall, second door on the right
(just before the coffee machine). I guess you had better talk to them; we don't
'do' C++ here.
