visibility attribute ignored in compilation

Given the following function prototype:

void dummy(void) __attribute__ ((visibility ("internal")));

When I compile I get the following compiler message:

warning: `visibility' attribute directive ignored

I have been unable to much information about this warning. Is there a compiler flag/option that I need to use?

Thanks,
jenn

That's GCC-specific, so please ask about it in a GCC group.
