push2talk emulator!

Hi VB experts,

l dreamt of it, and Sony did not make it! I dreamt of a plain stupid small
programm for Windows, that runs as a service would disable the "microphone
mute" in the "volume control"
on the computer, as long as I depress a given key (e.g. Alt GR or right
CTRL) and enable it again when I release that key.

Unfortunately I am not a programmer. Does any one know if it already exists,
or take the challenge for a top position in my hall of fame?

Just for info: this would be a good help in any voice recognition software,
when your environment is not quiet or you get often disturbed.
Stupidly the manufacturer did not think to implement the feature and is not
willing to do it. ;-(

OK I can solder a hardware solution, but I can also imagine that this small
piece of software could help mankind, for the next generations. ;-)

Looking forward to hearing from you...

Why did you cross-post to non-VB nesgroups, including this one, if
you're talking to "[Visual Basic] experts"? Anyway, your post is
off-topic in this newsgroup, which is concerned with C++ *language*
issues, not applications.

Cheers! --M

Just buy a multimedia keyboard...
Most have a "mute" button (push to toggle mute on/off).

Well that's brilliant, Michel. Maybe if you have a few glasses of rum and
Coke® before you go to bed tonight you might dream of the code required to
do it ;-)

Seems like someone else has been dreaming too. Try
<http://www.ventrilo.com/about.php>. Part way down the page is "* Mute
Microphone and Mute Sound with key binds for both."

Microsoft at
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/netmting/reskit/netmtg3/part2/chapter2.mspx>
have something less helpful in their NetMeeting TechKit.

I did hunt around in the Windows APIs but gave up after a while.
There's *got* to be something there, or else how do Ventrilo do it?

Warm regards,
Bruce.
