Use a third party library. Look for free encoders for mp3 (LAME comes to mind).

In a newer version of a chess program I am writing, I have created classes that are (more or less) drop in replacements for things that used to be plain old integer or enumerated variables (colors, piece types, squares, etc.). To accomplish this, I used implicit conversions. For instance, a color used to be: typedef int Color; // and a few constants... Now a color is (paraphrased):

Hi, This is a question about whether I am right that a particular syntactic sugar is missing in C++. Let me explain with an example. Let us say I have a class for complex numbers, and I want people to be able to initialize real numbers (like an object of type double) from it ... in such a context (or if someone explicitly casts to double), the imaginary part is to be ignored. However, I certainly do not want people to be able to ask...

I am trying to use the Java Language Conversion Assistant 2.0 with Visual Studio .NET 2003 on Windows 2000 Server SP4 and .NET framework 1.1 to convert some java files to C#. I go through all the steps in the wizard to setup the conversion and start the conversion. Soon after the conversion starts, I see a Java Language Conversion Assistant Wizard Error saying "Conversion failed: Cannot initiate conversion process". I cannot find any...

Hi, I am evaluating various alternatives of converting Delphi (Ver 4.0) screens to C# screens. Are there any tools available for such conversion? if yes how much conversion do they achieve? The number of screens to be converted are huge, we are aiming minimum regression impact. What could be the best approach? Currently the option of Delphi.Net is ruled out.

Dear All, There is the problem in nutshells (see the program bellow): It is ok to convert pointer to F<T> to the pointer to I. Now if I have pointer to member "F<T> entity::*" can I convert it to the "I entity::*"? Compiler does not let me to do that (I've tried on VC 7.1 and Comeau 4.3.3). If I do reinterpret_cast then the program will be compiled and runs as expected all though I would like to know possible implications of this

Suppose there are 2 classes A and B with a int parameter called 'val' in each. Both of them provide a public constructor with int type parameter. Suppose class A provides a explicit conversion operator taking B object as a parameter and returning an A object. A objA = new A(10); B objB = new B(5); objA = (A)objB; --call public static explicit operator A(B objB) --This method will return "new A(objB.val)"

In the book, C++ Coding Standards book by Hereb Sutter and Andrei Alexandrescu, in Item 40 on pages 86-87 viz, "Avoid providing implicit conversions", the authors have advised the use of named functions that offer conversions instead of conversion operators. In page 87, example 2: Errors that work. class String { // ...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
