A compiler is a compiler, not an editor. What you were looking for
is an IDE. But you can use whatever editor you like to write your C
programs and then feed the programs to whatever compiler you have.

You poor suffering thing. You can get a system with an IDE for
free from the Borland museum, vintage 1988 or so. However you
would be well advised to learn to run a separate compiler, editor,
and possibly even debugger.

Is there a good editor that can be used with a 32 bit compiler under the MS-Dos platform? I used to use the Watcom C++ 11 compiler but the editor that came with it (VI if I remeber) was not that great, in fact it was horrible. I'm searching for a Borland C++ style editor and a good C++ 32 bit compiler. Doesn't really matter if the compiler doesn't optimize the code. Thanx in advance... Lovens

Hi, As I been programming in C I have discovered more and more tools that really helps to speed up the development process when writing programs. Examples of such tools are cscope, cbrowser, tags, etc. There are ofcourse many different levels of programmers, and the beginners might only use emacs or vi to write their code. However, since there are such great tools out there to help the programmer, I am wondering which tools are...

Sometime ago on the comp.lang.c, I saw a teacher's post asking why C compilers produce so many error messages as soon as a closing bracket is missing. The response was simply because the compiler can't tell where a bracket is missing.... a few weeks have past, I requested a feature for the delphi ide/editor "automatic identation of code in begin/end statements etc" and today when I woke up I suddenly released a very simple solution for this...

Hello, I am posting reguarding some modifications I made to a text editor program that I wrote in my java class at my school today. The file I was modifying is a very simple java text editor with a "JMenuBar" object, with "JMenu" objects, such as "File" with "JMenuItem" objects such as "Save". The Modifications that I am attempting to make to the program are designed to give actual functionality to the "JMenuItems", starting with the "Save"...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
