modifying data field before endEdit

2
Greetings,

I am still trying to come up to speed with ADO.NET

I have a simple form that I build with the IDE in design mode which created a DataSet, BindingSource, TableAdapter, tableAdapterManager and BindingNavigator.

Once I click the save button I would like to update one of the data field which is not bound to a control.

I also need to know whether this is an update or new record.

thanks
-Darryl
