I have a scenario where on my page(reports.aspx) I submit a report request to a class(ReportWritter.cs) in a web app. The class in turn uses a webservice to submit this job to the DB(Oracle 10g). The service returns me only the JobID. The class then uses the JobId and polls on a DB table(Jobs_Queue) to check if this job is completed or not. If it is completed, it returns a path where the pdf is saved to the calling page. The calling page then uses Javascript to open the path in a new Window...phew
ReportWritter uses thread.sleep(5000) while polling for report to finish.
My Goal, I want the user to submit this report request, and be able to go on any other page in my application and continue working while the report executes and pop-up in a new window.
Currently, I can open a new window(ReportLauncher.aspx) on report submission, but while the new window is waiting for the report path, the calling window(reports.aspx) is not usable, if I try to click on anything it keeps waiting, as soon as the report is opened, reports.aspx starts functioning.
I want to be able to isolate these two windows and make them work asynchronously (in parallel).
Any Thoughts? Any Ideas? Anything would be appreciated..
