Reading other partitions

I assume this is a fairly complex task but does anyone know some nice tutorials or open source programs that allow you to read partitions windows doesn't normally recognize. For example ext3 or fatx.

I would dig into the linux guides on it. opensource projects and linux seem to partner much better then opensource and windows. You might something by looking up "ext3 driver in C" or something like that
