How does Silverlight relate to C#?

I'm considering suggesting a switch from
JS (which we use today at our company) to
Silverlight but i can't see any newsgroup
devoted to that subject.

It gives me the impression that allthough
it's called Silverlight, it's in fact
coded in, e.g. C#. Is it true?

(Today we use ASP.NET coded in C# on the
server and JacaScript on the client.)

Yes; Silverlight (2) compares more closely to Flash than to ASP.NET - it is
a client-side applet technology (that also offers comms to your hosting
ASP.NET site for data access etc). I believe you can use various .NET
languages, but you can *certainly* use C#.

The technology to have a .Net WPF application run inside the browser is
called Silverlight. As it uses (a subset of) the .Net framework it can
be programmed in any of the .Net languages, including C#.

As for newsgroups, there are forums available on http://silverlight.net

Silverlight != WPF

They share an architecture, but WPF is the Windows-based, full-framework
based, variant. Silverlight uses a slimmed-down framework and runs on
multiple OS (such as Windows, linux, etc). Running WPF in a browser is XBAP,
not Silverlight.
