How to configure a client/server in development

Bob
Hello,

I need to develop an application in ASP .NET (C#): this is my first time.
The application will be very simple, but I need a third-party control for
generating PDFs, and I have chosen one (Websupergoo). I have VS2005 on my
PC, but I want to save the project on my development server (same network).
My question is: should I install Websupergoo on my PC only, or also on the
server? Or maybe only on the server?
In general: when I use a third-party .NET control, where should I install
it?

Thanks.

It really depends on the control. Many controls you can simply deploy
as flat files (i.e. just include the dll in the build output); and
depending on the vendor there may be some "licx" stuff going on in the
background. Or some other controls may need to be installed on the
machine that will be running it, which (for a client app) you might do
via pre-reqs or an msi.

You will probably have to install it on any development machines and
your central build server (if you have one); I would hope that servers
just pick up the dll from the bin folder.

Also check that you are licenced to install it where you want to ;-p
(just a general advisory; I don't know anything about supergoo's
license...)

If you have the service-pack, I would recommend a web application
project over a web site. It makes things like references far clearer
(IMO) - and it builds a lot faster.

(which is another way of saying: I can't remember how to do it with a
web-site project; it has been a while! WAP gets my vote...)
