user input settings

Hi,

I have a headache trying to come up with a sensible arangement of
keys/mouse command assignment for my 3d wire mesh editor.

I need so many degress of movement for 3d,
and I need to be able to move several different objects,
IE camera, world, model, part of model ie 1 of 4 posible selections etc...
plus I still need to be able to sensibly select stuff by clicking and
clicking to force focus and activate right click style drop down menus,

so Im thinking il just make every possible action a setting,
theres 3 or 6 axis for each object,
any one axis will have 2 keys and a mouse movement,
along with modifier keys and possibly some mode wich can be toggled,
and keep them in a settings file.

there seems to be about 4 ways of saving settings to a file,
soap,xml,iserialize,binary etc ...
plus the settings thing wich I havnt quite grasped yet,

but what im after is a settings file wich can be
easily understoood and edited by a simple text editor,
this is so i dont have to write a user interface to
edit each setting seperatly,
its not going to be widley used aplication
id rather concentrate on the usefull stuff first.

the related application it works with has similar style old windows settings
file
wich people are probably used to editing and would be nice to keep similar
format.
the xml formats seems to have too much other stuff wich is hard to digest.
wich would be the best way to go
maybe just read/write the file in a function ?
