Sandcastle compile error

I am building a chm file using sandcastle and am following
instructions on
https://blogs.msdn.com/sandcastle/ar...29/682398.aspx

I am following all the commands which are proceeding kind of ok, until
I get to
hhc output\test.hhp

At this point, I get

C:\Program Files\Sandcastle\Examples\sandcastle>hhc output\test.hhp
Microsoft HTML Help Compiler 4.74.8702

Compiling c:\Program Files\Sandcastle\Examples\sandcastle\output
\test.chm

HHC5003: Error: Compilation failed while compiling html\.htm.
HHC6000: Error: An internal file could not be created. Make certain
there is enough disk space on the drive where you are compiling your
file.
HHC5007: Error: Fatal navigational compilation error. This is likely
the result of an invalid contents (.hhc) file.

The following files were not compiled:
html\.htm
Unable to open output\test.hhp.

I found a link on the web for an older version of sandcastle which
said that a patch was necessary to fix this. However, I could not find
this patch, and anyway this is a much newer version.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks a lot, really am trying to make this work.
