I’m using visual studio C# 2005 express edition
Not sure about the Express Edition, but in the standard Visual Studio it
is under Tools, Options, Text Editor, C#, General, third option from the
bottom of the window.

I dont have the Express version, but in the Standard edition you do:

Open the Options.
Make sure that "Show all settings" at the bottom is checked.
Open the "Text Editor" node.
Select the language you want to change the settings for.
Check or uncheck "Line numbers" in the Display section.
