datetimepickers

I am using a datetimepicker that is bond to a field in my database
table.When saving a new record unless i drop the calender and select a
date the datetimepicker stores a null in the database.How can i make
the datetimepicker store the date it is displaying, in the database
without having to reselect the date for each record saved.Thanks
