Has anyone every created a custom control where the following has happened:
1. Created a new project and added the reference to your custom control to
the project
2. Selected Tools>Choose Toolbox items… and selected your custom control
3. Choose the control from your Toolbox and added it to a Winform
4. You save the project and closed the IDE
5. Later you open the IDE, and select the project you added your custom
control to
6. You open your form in design view and get the follow error dialog:
Microsoft Visual Studio
The control <3rd party control used in the Custom Controlhas thrown an
unhandled exception in the designer and has been disabled.
Exception:
Parameter is not valid
The project compiles and runs fine. I can delete the custom control and
added back to the form fine. I can even close the form and open it fine, but
as soon as I close the IDE then go open the project again I get the same
error again.
It doesn’t matter how I open the project, whether it’s the .sln itself or
though the file menu I still get the same error.
I thought something might be wrong with the 3rd party control, so I added it
to a form, then open and close the IDE with it just fine. I can even open
and close the Custom Control project fine. Since the project loads with no
errors, there are not any form error logs either to look at.
The Custom Control was built with VS 2003/C#, and is used in a VS 2005/C#
project both of which use Framework 1.1.
This is very strange. Does anyone have a solution to this issue?
Thanks,
