Assembly.LoadFrom and Serialization

I use Assembly.LoadFrom to dynamically load a dll from a subdirectory of
my program's working directory. I then use reflection to instantiate an
object that implements an interface. I then call a method on the object,
that causes it to deserialize some bytes to an object.
When I try to do the deserialization, I get exceptions telling me that
the CLR couldn't find the assembly needed to deserialize the object
(despite the fact that required assembly is the one making the call to
deserialize the object!).
If I change it so that the dll is loaded from the same directory as the
exe file, it works fine - but that's not ideal.

Have I found a bug in the CLR, or am I missing something?

(I hope this post was easy to understand. If not, tell me and I'll write
some code for people to look at... but it's not possible to make a
program that is only a few lines long display this behavior - you need 3
assemblies - one for the exe, one for the dll, and one for the interface)
