best way to go

Hi,

I am a c# programmer and am looking for some advice as i am about to
develop a web service application and not sure what the best approach
is.

Basically i need a client and server component but i am not sure what
is the best way to develop the client, through ASP.net or build an
ActiveX component. Am not new to programming but i only ever build
form applications so i dont have any experince of using web based
applicaitons.

To be honest i am not sure what the difference is really and wondered
if anyone knew some good resources or had any of their own
recommendations.

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks

Adam

Hi,

Well, you said nothing at all, only that you need to write some code

What is the intended use of the code?
where does it needs to run?
who is going to use it?

the server application i need to create will control some devices
through the use of SDK's

the client application will simply be used to control the devices
remotely, so all the logic for controlling the devices will be in the
server and the client application will the user to send requests to
the server so that the device can be turned off/on etc.

the server will be always on and we just a thin client to communicate
over tcp/ip to our server. So instead of using remoting we wanted to
use a web service type of application.

the users will be just general admin people so as basic and simple as
possible really.

also the server will have data which we will want to report on at the
client

thanks
Adam
