Using Resolver and xslArgumentList together in transform method

Hi all,
i have an xsl with params to be parse using c#. I then used
xslArgumentList and XpathNavigator Classes.
I tried the following:
1-trans.transform(doc,params,writer,null). I had am empty result. the
null stands for Resolver.
2-trans.transform(doc,params,writer). It works well
3-trans.transform("input.xml","output.xml"). it works well if i
initialise the params in xsl.
Why is there a problem in step 1? i do not understand the function of
the resolver or what its really all about.
thanks in advance
