Advice on DAtaGridView

Hi,
I have a project which displays a Select from a SQL Express DB via a
dataset and datagridview. Now, I know how to sort the datagridview by column
but what I really want is for the data shown in the DatagridView to be
listed in the same order as the actual data is put in - i.e a FIFO stack as
it where, but when my app fills the datagridview on a 'SELECT * " command
the rows seem to come back out of order with the DB. I know also that I
could simply use a timestamp to know which order the rows where entered but
why does it not simply list it in the datagridview as it is listed in SQL
Server?

TIA
