Changing Configuration

I am working on a project in C# Express 2005 that I have converted from
Visual Studio 2003. I cannot, for the life of me, change between Debug
and Release configuration. The "Solutions Configuration" dropdown
briefly came to life this afternoon, however is now greyed out.
The help files refer to Build->Configuration Manager, however I do not
have this facility (presumably it is different in the Express editions).
Can anyone give me any pointers.
