google calender

I am working on a project to make a website for a user group which
implements the functionality of google calender. Users will be able to see a
calender and the events that are scheduled for each day. They can select an
event and register for it.

What tool will I need to make this web application? Currently, we are
looking at ASP .NET with VB and AJAX. Is that all we need ?
