Is DataSet.Merge right for me?

I have a database which I want to update with records from an XML file. The
XML file MAY contain rows already present in the database.

I was considering reading the contents of the database to one DataSet,
reading the XML file into another dataSet, then merging them on the first
DataSet.

Would this add only the new rows to the first DataSet, or should I be
looking at a diferent method to add the new rows only?

If you see the overload on DataSet, it does not do anything for Data.. its
just used to merge schema definitions... you should try other methods...

although.. if you have a key defined, when merging rows , it will raise a
error, you can handle the error to ignore such rows.. But again, this might
be expensive at point where you are looking to insert 2 rows from the XML to
a Database table of more than 1000 rows.. well even 50 rows.., So I would
suggest you trying doing the insert into the Database from XML...

Hello cashdeskmac,

You need specify MissingSchemaAction enum for the Merge to point how to manage
merged data.
BTW, you dataSet must be with the same schema

alternative way is to add DataRows manually
