Microsoft.Web.UI.WebControls -- trouble with TreeView/TreeNode

Hi, I've been working with TreeView for ASP.NET. I've had several puzzling
difficulties with it. For example I can write an application that works
fine programmatically adding TreeNode objects to a TreeView. If I try to
derive a class as follows

public class MyTreeNode : TreeNode
{

}

and use the derived class in place of the TreeNode, things do not work.
There is an error in LoadViewState. Why should a derived class make such a
difference?

What I want to do is derive a useful editable treenode.
