Converting string to unsafe byte*

Will this code pass the pointer correctly to my DLL function?
Here is the code:
-------------------------------------
private unsafe byte* ConvertStringToBytePtr(string str)
{
IntPtr mPtr = Marshal.AllocCoTaskMem(str.Length + 1);
byte* bPtr = (byte*)mPtr;
for (int i = 0; i < str.Length; i++)
{
bPtr[i] = Convert.ToByte(str[i]);
}
bPtr[str.Length] = Convert.ToByte('\0');
return bPtr;
}
