Laying out many controls at a time

Hi
For the second time using C# I've needed to lay a vast number of
controls out
using code, at run time.
This time I'm probably laying out around 30 controls dynamically as the
user presses
controls. However I'm having a problem with the efficiency of this.
The controls take I'd guess around 100ms to refresh, which is quite
noticable to the user,
as it refreshes from left to right, top to bottom.
I'm trying to understand the suspendLayout and ResumeLayout methods but
I don't appear to be improving things with them.
I would like the refresh to be done behind the scenes. I've tried
setting visible to false while
constructing the controls however this doesn't work.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers
Chris.
