Hanging automated process

I have an application that automates the processing of office documents and
most of the time the process hangs because a dialog will pop up waiting for
user interaction. For example if a Word document is missing a reference to
an external file, it will pop up and wait for the user to click "Ok." Is
there any way to use the Win32 API or anything else to kill these dialogs
that pop up? If the document is not processed as a result of killing the
dialog, im not concerned about it, if that helps.
