Cannot edit a class file

Please advise if there's a better forum. I'm trying to edit some
preexisting code that I have edited before. If I double click on the
file in the solution explorer, I get error:
"An error occurred whiel loading the document.... The language for this
file does not support the necessary code parsing and generation
services. Please ensure the file you are opening is a memer of a
project..."

It is a member of a project. The class is a subclass of a Windows
form. When I right-click on the file, I am not offered "View Code",
only "View Designer".
