Importing Outlook contacts into my custom software

Hi all,
I am working on a desktop software and using dot net( C# and its a
standalone software , its not a outlook pluggin). I have to import
Outlook 2003 contacts into my software. How would i go about it?
Are outlook 2003 contacts held in a file, which file is this?
Moreover, what is a PST file and what information is held in PST file?
I have never programmed Outlook 2003 so please enlighten me...Obliged.
Any help or comments will be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Is exporting the contacts from Outlook an option?
If so, you can export contacts to MS Access or Excel and use it just
like a database and import all contacts.

Thanks for your message. However, i would like to automate the process.
I mean i want my software to import all Outlooko contacts by just
pressing a button. How is that possible?
