Com Objects and C#

I would like to script Adobe Indesign via Com Objects in C#
First I add the Reference to the Com Object.

When I try to instantiate the applicationobject I use

InDesign.Application app = new InDesign.ApplicationClass();

and with

app.Activate();

I get it into the foreground.
The problem is, that this only works, when InDesign is already started.
If it is not started I get an Exception telling me that it didn't find a
Com Object with a certain ClassID.

When I use

Type t = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("InDesign.Application.CS2") ;
app = (InDesign.Application)Activator.CreateInstance(t);

to instantiate the application Indesign gets automatically started and
everything works fine.

What's the difference between the two methods?

Regards
Ferdinand
