I use the KeyPress event of the form to select a key.
Snippet:-
private void Form1_KeyPress(object sender,
System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs e)
{
switch(e.KeyChar.ToString().ToLower())
{

case "e":this.btnEditbk.PerformClick();
