Instead of posting all of the HTML code, could you post the complete
exception message? The information in the subject line was cut off.

Do you have a local SMTP server set up? You need this in order to send
messages, I believe.

You might want to consider the Indy Project, as it has classes that do
not have this requirement.

Also, if you are using .NET 2.0, you can use the classes in the
System.Net.Mail namespace, which do not have this requirement either.

Try it without the smtpserver to check to see if the server can even send
SMTP. I was going to say send authentication but I scrolled through your
hundred miles of html "stuff" and found it, however, I think you should
specify configuration.fields..

I don't think you grasp what we mean be "local". For the .Net v1.1
System.Web.Mail classes to work, the SMTP server must be the same machine as
the IIS server. (Yes, this is stupid --- that is presumably why they fixed
it in .Net v2.0)

This is a console application not a web app. Nothing about my app runs on an

Yes, but you need the SMTP server installed locally in order to use the
classes in the System.Web.Mail namespace.

I tried removing the smtp server, the code executed with no errors however an
email was never received. Configuration.fields is a member of what? I don't
know what you mean by configuration.fields.

Try it without the smtpserver to check to see if the server can even send
SMTP. I was going to say send authentication but I scrolled through your
hundred miles of html "stuff" and found it, however, I think you should
specify configuration.fields..

HTH,

Denis
The inner exception is "The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The
transport error code was 0x80040217. The server response was not available"

Let's see if we can simplify our questions to help fix your problem. If you
run an app from your computer it programatically must authenticate to the
SMTP server. Since it is not a web app you can not authenticate using the
web auth schema you had it the HTML provided. Your LOCAL app must
impersonate to SMTP relay in order to send email or launch the local SMTP
protocol. In which case drop the smtpserver parameter.

Seems simple enough to me,

This is a console application not a web app. Nothing about my app runs on an IIS server.

yes we do have a local smtp server set up and it does work as i can ping andtelnet to it. We are not running .net2.0 yet.
Do you have a local SMTP server set up? You need this in order to sendmessages, I believe.
