Hi,
I try to host my own web at home, but can not make it work.
Env: verizon dsl modem and router combo; win 2000 + sp4; IIS; .net framework
1.1; MS VS 2003…
What I did:
1. configure the router with port forwarding TCP port 80 local IP
192.168.1.44 for http service, without any firewall and security.
2. go to dyndns.org to register dynamic DNS to match myhost.dyndns.org to my
router IP 68.239.xxx.xxx (this is verified by running “nslookup
myhost.dyndns.org” on a remote PC)
3. create a virtual dir “myhost” in the default web site of IIS (How do I
configure this?)
Any suggestion? Thanks. -Dale 4 1609
Dale, even if you get your IIS up and running which should not be hard I
would suggest a few things. First, have a static IP address inside your
network. Some routers will change their internal IP address. Second, Verizon
DSL will change your external IP address nightly. At least that was the
case when I had Verizon DSL.
This will be a good start with virtual directories. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;172138

Hi Landi,
Thank you for the help. How could I find my IIS version?

Finally, I start to use a general wireless router from linksys
BEFW11S4 V4.0 FW Version: 1.52.02. after configuring port forwarding (use
port 8081 since ISP may block 80), i still can not access web server. the ip
address of local hosting PC is 192.168.1.102. If I put this ip in the address
bar of IE, I can see the web site correctly.
but if I put hostname or router's IP address in the address bar of IE, a
window popped up to ask for user name and password. The window has "befw11s4
v4" on top. I put router setup user/password, verizon dsl connection
user/password, verizon dsl email user/password, none of them works.
Any idea? Thanks. -Dale
