GIF and JPEG are definitely the most widely recognized by all browsers. PNG
is usually OK. I think that BMP is not only too large having no compression
but, as you say, a proprietary format so I steer clear of them.
IMO, even though JPEG is good. nothing beats a GIF with a well optimised
palette.

hi,
this may sound like the wrong discussion group to use but i assume that
some
of you use HTML/ASP.NET in your websites and will know an answer.
with an internet connection, anyone can view a website, right? even on a
Mc
or a Linux machine. so what is the best image fornmat? BMP is not the best
because it is a windows file format, WMF and EMF also.
does PNG work or is it also a windows file format?
which is better, GIF or JPEG?
