Filetype reassignment headache. Aaargh!.

Hi,

I've been trying to assign a certain file extension to a certain program for
quite a while now. I've managed to do most of the stuff, but the program that
used to be assigned to the file type is still haunting me.

Its a mere text file with the extension .dat. Before we used Notepad to
access this file, but now I reassing .dat to the program that I write from
the program.

It seems (from folder options/file types) that there are two 'layers' of
file type assignment information. One default and one customize on top that
overrides the default value.

I can set the defualt from C# but how can I remove the default setting.?
Alternatively Is there a way - from C# - to completely wipe out all .dat
assignments in the register data base.?
