Newbie needs to know how to set the mouse position.
If you're right handed, then grasp the mouse with your right hand
(careful not to press the buttons on the top, and don't put pressure
on the scrolling wheel, if your mouse is so equipped.) Gently apply
lateral pressure to the mouse with your hand in the direction you'd
like the mouse to go, moving the mouse across the mousepad. (Some
people don't use mousepads, preferring instead to move the mouse
directly on the top of the desk. This is also acceptable.) When your
mouse has reached the desired postion, terminate the lateral pressure
so the mouse stops exactly where you want it.
If you are left handed, do pretty much the same thing, except that you
would grasp the mouse with your left hand.
This might take some practice before you become proficient, but within
a few days you should be able to set the mouse position wherever you
want it.
Oh - BTW - if you reach the edge of the mouse pad or the desk surface
and the mouse is in danger of falling off, you may have miscalculated
the desired mouse position with respect to the cursor on the screen.
In these cases, you can lift the mouse off the mousepad or desk and
move it in the air and reposition it on your mousing surface without
affecting the position of the cursor on the screen.
(sorry - I guess I just couldn't resist...)
