I have a SQL Server development box and a Clustered SQL Server Production
box which is run by our enterprise level admins. In order to direct my C#
front end from my development box to the production cluster I have to go
through a change control window in off hours to change the connection
strings to point from the dev to the production box. This all has to be done
during a window of about an hour. Once I change the connection strings if
there are any errors with connecting I have to resolve them in this open
window.
I wanted to throw this out there to see what other professionals are doing.
I would like to have two files I reference, 1 with the development server
path strings, and 1 with the production cluster path strings instead of
manually going in and modifying each individual connection string.
I would like to just reference a registry key, preference file, txt file, or
ini file. It would be easier to have each method which needs to open a
connection to call a class level string variable that points to the ini file
which has the connection string in it. This way I could just change out the
ini file name at the class level, this would reduce the possibilities of
spelling or path errors.
I'm open to any suggestions....
