Datagrid Dropdownlist becomes Textbox on Update!

Hi

I have a datagrid with autogenerates columns based upon a dataset I have
constructed from the results of database query - pretty noddy stuff.

When you click on Edit I remove the standard Textboxs you get with the Edit
command and replace a number of they with DropDownLists. I have to do this
programatically and not via asp template columns becuase the number of
columns can vary. The DropDownLists I create are show in the datagrid
without any problems, they even contain the options I want them to.

My problem is when I come to update - the DropDownList controls that I added
as part of the Edit command have strangely been replaced with TextBox
controls. They is no sign of the DropDownList controls I created! I've even
been through the Datagrid's entire control list to see if they are hidden
elsewhere, but alas no!

To sum up;
1 - Autogenerated Datagrid without templatecolumns
2 - The Edit command adds the DropDownLists to the datagrid successfully
3 - The Update connot see the DDL's I've just added only TextBoxes!

All Ideas welcome.
