remove ?xml from generated xml serialization

when serialize an object in the top of xml this line is added
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>

is it possible to prevent serializer from generating it?

Hi there... Remember that it is an XML file so it must start with that line,

Actually, from my reading of the XML specification, the XML declaration
part is optional.

However, if you leave it out, the document *must* start with a UTF-16
BOM (assuming it really is in UTF-16 as the declaration says!).
